KJV or NIV

The King James Version (KJV) has been with us for 400 years. It has stood the test of time. It is the descendant of the Geneva Bible, (the preeminent Bible of the Reformation). When you begin to immerse yourself in God's holy word, you will want to memorize certain verses that you gravitate towards. In this process I hope you discover the usefulness of the many Bible help reference books. They are all keyed to the KJV because of the early work of Strong's Exhaustive Concordance.

Now when you think of that verse... "put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground"... you can now go to your Strong's concordance and look up the word 'shoe' and you will find it is one of about 30 'shoe' and 'shoes' used in the King James Version (KJV). It is the first place the word 'shoes' is used. However if you've been using the New International Version (NIV) this won't work for you. You won't even be familiar with this classic and important text. "put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground" because the NIV says... 'Take off your sandals' There are other issues involved in choosing to learn and read the KJV, however this is the most obvious reason for choosing the KJV.

The NIV, and its cousins -the Revised Standard Version (RSV) and the New American Standard Bible (NASB)- stand in opposition to the KJV, the New King James Version (NKJV) and the Amplified Bible. This is because of two documents that became popularized around the time of Darwin, in the mid to late 1800's. Two texts, known as the Codex Sinaiticus and the Codex Vaticanus, both show signs of the influence of gnostic heresies prevalent in the area of Alexandria, Egypt. It is thought that these two texts came from there. One was found discarded in a trash can in an ancient and unused room of a monastery. Based upon the idea that these two texts were older than others, the men who promoted them and their own careers began using the penknife of Jehudi (Jer 36:23) to remove 64,000 words!

Wescott and Hort are the two men, who in the late 1800's popularized the two texts, the Sinaiticus and the Vaticanus. The two texts have become known as the minority manuscripts because of the way they stand apart from the vast majority of manuscript evidence, known as the Textus Receptus. The letters of the two men, Wescott and Hort, clearly show us that one leaned toward Rome and the Vatican to the point of trusting in transubstantiation ( a Roman Catholic Dogma), and the other was friends with Darwin and the yearning for 'naturalistic' explanations for the origin of species. In much the same way as the early dinosaur bone diggers could promote their careers with a great find, Wescott and Hort would propel themselves to the fore by promoting their minority manuscripts as being older and therefore 'more accurate'. This is in spite of the fact that the Codex Vaticanus, and Codex Sinaiticus are riddled with ancient corrections, as if a monk of inferior intelligence had begged to be allowed to work in transcription and then made many errors that needed correction.

As a result of a heavy leaning on the two minority manuscripts a new version of the Bible was invented in the late 1800's. That version was the mother of the Revised Standard Version (RSV), (and the NASV, ASV, NIV, etc.) Before that, all Protestant Bibles were based on the Textus Receptus. The RSV began a tidal wave of new versions that continues to this day. Each new version is copywritten and at least partially motivated by the publisher's profit motive. Without the copywrite, there is little or no profit in the publication of Bibles.

As perviously stated, the NIV is 60,000 words short of the KJV. This is like ripping out a third of your New Testament. Many people like the elimination if words such as -hath-. Have you ever considered that the langauge of the KJV has a plural and singular word for you (thou & thee) while the modrn versions only have 'you'?

In the NIV some important verses are entirely left out. Whole passages such as Mark 16:9-20 are omitted or brought into serious doubt in foot-notes. Important words like -Holy- are omitted time and again (Matt 25:31; 2 Peter 1:21; Rev 22:6). Clear evidence that the Lord Jesus received worship is eliminated in Matthew 18:26, 20:20. In Acts 17:29, 'Godhead' is changed to 'divine being'. Words such as -hell, -repent, -sodomite, and -damnation- are replaced with weaker, less definitive words.

Here are a very few NIV Omitions;
Entire Verses Omitted from NIV;

Matt 17:21
"Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting."
--- well wouldn't the devil love to stifle the POWER ---
--- that accompanies prayer and fasting? ---

Matt 18:11 (One of my favorite verses!!!)
"For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost."

Matt 23:14
"Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation." --- How interesting this deletion is... since Jesus pronounces woe to the SCRIBES!!! ---

Mark 7:16,
"If any man have ears to hear, let him hear"
--- another one of my favorite verses!!! ---

Mark 9:44,
"Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched"
--- none of this kinda preach'n in my church on no sireee ---

Mark 11:26,
"But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses."--- Want to keep your unforgiveness? Just drop this verse and you can keep your 'greasy grace'.

Mark 15:28;
"And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors."--- omit this verse and say goodbye to those pesky prophecy buffs.

Luke 17: 36
"Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left."
--- Drop this verse and say goodbye to all those
--- pesky fans of the LEFT BEHIND BOOKS.

John 5:4
"For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had."
--- Dump this and you don't have to worry about those unexplainable miracles in your secessionist church, and those angels are just fairy tales, right? Your loss if you read the NIV.

Acts 8:37
"And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."
--- This great verse is totaly omited.

Romans 16:24
"The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen."
--- How tragic to remove this awesome benediction. ---

Partial Verses Omitted from NIV

KJV
"And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen." Matt 6:13

NIV
"And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one." Matt 6:13

The NIV removes the deliverence from evil and replaces is with just the 'evil one'. The NIV drops the kingdom, and the power, and the glory. If you read the NIV its your loss.

KJV
"And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city." Mark 6:11

NIV
"And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave, as a testimony against them." Mark 6:11

The NIV removes the day of judgment.

KJV
"Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.?Mark 10:21

NIV
"Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." Mark 10:21

The omission is "take up the cross"--- need I say more? ---

A few more partial verses omitted from the NIV; Luke 1:28, Luke 4:4, Luke 4:8, John 1:27, John3:13, John3:15, Acts 10:6, Acts 15:18, Acts 20:24, 1 Corinthians 6:20, 1 Corinthians 11:24, Revelation 1:11, Revelation 5:14, Revelation 14:5.

The last paragraph in the Gospel according to Mark has been omitted or called into question in many of the new versions because of the evidence of the two minority manuscripts over the vast evidence of the Textus Receptus. In letters written by Irenaeus and Hippolytus, written before the year 300 AD, we can see them quoting these scriptures to one another. This is clear evidence that the last paragraph af Mark is part of the canon of scripture. A strutural analysis of these verses reveals a starteling and amazing heptadic structure, a structure based around the number seven.

The First 8 Verses contain; Words 126 (7 x 18),
those words which begin with a vowel; 42 (7 x 6),
those words which begin with consonant 84 (7 x 12).

The Last Twelve Verses of Mark contains 175 words (7 x 25)
And uses a Vocabularyof 98 words (7 x14)
There are 553 Letters (7 x 79)
There are Vowels; 294 (7 x 42)
There are Consonants; 259 (7 x 37)
Words used Only here 14 (7 x 2)
The first word has a numeric value of 98 (7 x 14)
The Middle word has a numeric value of 4,529 (7 x 647)
The Last word 791 (7x 113)

Parts of Speech:
Non-nouns 77 (7 x 11)
Nouns 21 (7 x 3)
Begin with a vowel, 7 (7 x 1)
Begin with a consonant, 14 (7 x 2)

Dr. Chuck Missler has this to say about the heptadic attributes;
"Do you think that a clever scribe could have composed these on his own? The passage in question has over 34 heptadic features,2 which would seem to make their inclusion by human manual methods seem a bit difficult: Only one number in seven is a multiple of seven; the chance for any number being a multiple of seven is only one in seven. The chance that any two numbers both are a multiple of seven is only one in 7 x 7, or 49; increasing sevenfold for every additional number.
734 = 54,116,956,037,952,111,668,959,660,849.
One million supercomputers, composing 400 million drafts per second, would require over 4 million years to complete that number! The fingerprint of the Designer? A trademark of the artisan? This heptadic attribute seems to operate as an automatic security monitor?...As one who is familiar with the style of an artist, composer, sculptor, etc, and readily recognizes a work he has not seen before, the imprint is unmistakable." -Chuck Missler

Charles H. Spurgeon wrote this;
"For our own part, we are always grateful for good marginal readings; but we are less and less disposed to countenance any tampering with the text. The older we grow the more conservative we become. We have had ten thousand messages from God to our soul in the very words of our English (King James Version) Bible; and we have prayed over and preached about the precepts and promises it enshrines, till we feel a vested interest in the volume as it is."
-The Sword and the Trowel, 1884

Charles H. Spurgeon also wrote this;
"Our Authorized Version, which will never be bettered, as I judge, till Christ shall come."-C.H. Spurgeon's Autobiography, 1900
